Why Does Trading on a Demo Account Often Feel Easier Than a Real Account?
Some traders may notice that trading on a demo account appears to generate more frequent profits compared to a real account, even when using the same charts. This occurs due to several psychological factors and differences in liquidity between the two account types.
1. Difference in Funds
In a demo account, the funds provided are virtual and free of cost. Meanwhile, in a real account, traders use their actual capital, which naturally creates psychological pressure.
When trading with virtual funds, the absence of financial risk reduces anxiety and allows traders to conduct market analysis and make decisions more confidently. Additionally, the large amount of virtual funds available makes trading feel smoother, as losses can be absorbed more easily during periods of floating loss.
2. Liquidity Disparities
Demo accounts and real accounts differ significantly in liquidity. Demo accounts do not rely on actual market liquidity and therefore do not require trading counterparts.
What are trading counterparts?
In real market conditions, every transaction involves two sides — the Sell Side and
the Buy Side. For example, if a trader opens a SELL position for 5 lots, another
participant in the market must open a BUY position for 5 lots for the transaction
to occur.
In a demo account, however, all orders are executed instantly without requiring a matching counterparty. This makes trading appear easier and smoother compared to real market conditions.
